About the author

Dr Simon McNair is a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow based in the Centre for Decision Research. Simon’s academic background is in the psychology of judgement and decision-making, with particular focus on how individual differences in cognitive and emotional characteristics influence peoples' behaviour.

The Developing more effective financial support service provision in the UK research project is funded by a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellowship.

Both the UK’s Money Advice Service, and the US-based equivalent Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, have called for more evidence-based research to help further understand how we might improve peoples’ financial capability.

In this video blog, Dr Simon McNair explains his research into developing a resource that can be given to those requiring debt advice. The brochure, ‘Money Worries and how to beat them’, provides targeted advice and support to tackle the emotional and psychological barriers those in debt often face.

You can find out more about the theory behind the research in a previous video blog by Simon. And if you’d like to hear more about Simon’s research, get in touch at research.LUBS@leeds.ac.uk.
