Lunch with an alumnus
Alumnus, Muhammad Surya Anindita (MBA 2015), returned to the Business School this week to share his experiences of moving from an MBA to a PhD with the current MBA class.
After seven years working for Indonesia’s largest oil and gas corporation, Pertamina, Muhammad fell into a monotonous working routine where he craved a change. He decided to embark on an MBA and arrived at the Business School in 2014. With 15 nationalities in his class, the MBA was just what Muhammad needed to build a worldwide network of professional contacts.
During his MBA, Muhammad decided that he wanted to pursue a PhD in the UK, with his long term goal being to lecture at the University in his home town of Yogyakarta. On completion of the MBA, Muhammad moved home, to work on his PhD application, returning to Pertamina, where he received an instant promotion. In 2016 Muhammad was offered a PhD place at Sheffield University Management School.
The session was a great opportunity for MBA students to gain insight into the process of applying for a PhD as well as learning the differences between studying as part of a cohort and researching alone.
