Profile

Ali Samei is a Lecturer in Management at Leeds University Business School. Before joining Leeds, he was a Lecturer in Strategic Management at the University of Sheffield. Prior to this, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer in Technology and Innovation Management at the TUM School of Management, Technical University of Munich. Ali holds a PhD in Strategic Management from IESE Business School. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting PhD student in the Strategic Management Department at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Ali gained an MSc in Management Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology.

Research interests

Ali’s main research interests are in strategic management, technology and innovation, and strategic leadership. He is particularly interested in how senior leaders, external stakeholders and emerging technologies shape firms’ strategic decisions, competitive positioning and innovation outcomes.

A growing strand of his research examines the strategic implications of artificial intelligence. This work considers how AI changes organisational decision-making and how firms create and capture value, as well as the wider implications of human–AI interaction. His wider research considers topics including CEO decision-making, corporate governance, strategic responses to external evaluation, innovation management and digital entrepreneurship.

Methodologically, Ali primarily works with large-scale archival data and quantitative methods, complemented by computational approaches and textual analysis. His research uses these methods to investigate strategic and organisational phenomena at the intersection of firms, leaders, stakeholders and technological change.

PhD supervision

Ali welcomes applications and expressions of interest from prospective PhD students whose research interests align with his areas of expertise, particularly artificial intelligence and strategy, technology and innovation management, strategic leadership, and computational approaches to studying organisations.

Ali is a Fellow of Advance HE and has teaching experience across undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA and executive education.
