Unite Union elects first female leader

Visiting Professor Gregor Gall featured on BBC Radio Scotland on 26 August 2021, discussing the election of Sharon Graham to the role of General Secretary of Unite Union.

Visiting Professor of Industrial Relations Gregor Gall discusses Ms Graham’s new role as leader of Unite Union, the first female to be elected to the position, and what her election means for the future of Unite and relations with the left. 

Professor Gall highlights Ms Graham’s determination to focus on workers rights over Westminster politics, commenting that he expects ‘a greater support for those workers, encouraging those workers that are members to stand up for their rights against things like fire and rehire’.
