Yorkshire 'leading by example' on climate action
A new research centre on green global finance in collaboration with the University of Leeds features in a Yorkshire Post article, authored by Secretary of State for Business, Kwasi Kwarteng.
The article, published on 31 July 2021, discusses Yorkshire’s exemplary action in the race to tackle climate emergency and provide greener and more sustainable ecosystems.
Kwasi Kwarteng, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy highlighted the UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI), a new Research Centre for green global finance announced earlier, led by the University of Oxford and in collaboration with the University of Leeds.
Professor of Pensions and Finance, Iain Clacher, and Professor Jason Lowe OBE at the School of Earth and Environment are members of the Centre, which will advise lenders, investors and insurers on making environmentally sustainable decisions, supporting a greener global economy. The CGFI is funded by UK Research and Innovation, and has physical hubs in Leeds and London. Kwasi Kwarteng commented in the Yorkshire Post:
‘The Centre will provide vital climate and environmental data for banks and investors, helping the global financial sector invest sustainably in recognition that the only way to reach Net Zero is by unleashing the private capital to invest in new technology and new industries to create new jobs.’
This puts Leeds firmly on the global green finance map.
