Leeds University Business School achieves Athena Swan Silver
Leeds University Business School is delighted to announce that it has been awarded Athena Swan Silver, recognising its significant progress in advancing gender equality.
This marks a major step forward from the School’s Bronze award in 2020 and reflects a sustained, School-wide commitment to creating a more inclusive and supportive working environment. The Silver award recognises not only the range of activity taking place across the School, but the positive impact this work is having for colleagues.
The Athena Swan Charter, run by Advance HE, is a global framework that supports institutions to advance gender equality through evidence-based action and long-term cultural change. It provides a structured approach to improving representation, progression and working environments, with awards made at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels in recognition of both commitment and impact.
The successful application drew on contributions from colleagues across the School and highlights progress in key areas, including leadership, career development, culture and inclusion, and support for colleagues with caring responsibilities. It also sets out an ambitious and forward-looking action plan to build on this momentum and continue driving meaningful change.
This achievement reflects the dedication, expertise and collaboration of many colleagues across the School, including the Athena Swan leads and Self-Assessment Team, as well as those who contributed through consultation, data and ongoing equality, diversity and inclusion activity. Their collective efforts have been central to securing this important milestone.
Professor Julia Bennell, Executive Dean of Leeds University Business School, said:
I am delighted that we have been awarded Athena Swan Silver, a recognition that reflects the collective commitment and sustained efforts of our community to foster a more gender‑inclusive environment, and I extend my sincere thanks to our SAT team for their dedication and hard work in making this achievement possible.
Leeds University Business School will now focus on delivering the next phase of its work, continuing to strengthen its inclusive culture and ensure equality, diversity and inclusion remain central to its strategy and practice.
