Leader in Residence network grows to 100 members

We are delighted to welcome our 100th member to the Leaders in Residence programme at Leeds University Business School.

Our Leaders in Residence are a network of experienced business professionals, who volunteer their time to share expertise and insights with management students at Leeds University Business School.

Here we find out more from our 100th Leader in Residence, Farakh Masood, about his career experiences, and why he is volunteering his time for this initiative.

Farakh, what’s your current role?

“I’m a Founding Director of True Green Energy Group, a company focused on furthering a just energy transition for all, which means working towards achieving net zero in a way that is fair, inclusive and meets the needs of both companies and their people.

I have over 28 years of experience in the global B2B sales and service industry. My diverse background in engineering and law has provided me with a multifaceted perspective on various aspects of business operations.

Recognising an opportunity in the market, I identified the need for an Energy Transition consultancy dedicated to serving the resources industry. My vision is to assist businesses in achieving a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable transition to a circular economy.”

Thank you for becoming a Leader in Residence! What made you volunteer your time for this opportunity?

“I’ve been an active alumnus since graduating from Leeds University with a Mining and Engineering Degree (Hons) in 1997 and an MBA in 2000.

Throughout my career I have remained involved in both the Business School and the University, attending many networking and alumni events, working with the Priestly and Bragg Institutes, and having worked out of Nexus.

I started my early career in mining and oil, having come from a background unrelated to these industries. Having always been somewhat an outsider, I appreciate that developing skills within a commercial environment may be especially challenging for students who lack industry exposure, especially in a post-COVID era where work experience may have been inhibited.

I am keen to help students looking to enter the energy transition sector, recognising that graduates from all disciplines will be key in developing innovative solutions to not only achieving but maintaining net zero – the future of our planet depends on it!”

Welcome to Farakh, and thank you to all of our current Leaders in Residence for bringing your real world insights into our curriculum.
