From words to action: Rethinking Corporate Social Responsibility

This is an event in the Ideas in Practice series taking place in London on Friday 10 November 2017

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a very broad concept that addresses many varied topics such as human rights, corporate governance, health and safety, environmental effects, working conditions and contribution to economic development. Whatever the definition is, the purpose of CSR is to drive change towards sustainability.

What do we mean by the term sustainability in a business context? What is the evidence on the link between sustainability and profit? And what is different about those organizations that genuinely integrate sustainability into the corporate DNA? The speakers will discuss the evolving understanding of what sustainability means for the corporate world. They will briefly refer to the state of the art when it comes to rigorous academic research on the link between sustainability integration and corporate profitability. Importantly, they will highlight key elements of an organization's structure and processes that, according to research, characterise organizations with true sustainability integration into their business models and operations.

Businesses that have really embedded sustainability at the heart of how they do business, rather than just doing what they have to or simply what they can afford, are starting to see a reward in brand recognition and value growth. As we move into Sustainability 2.0, the next and vital stage to meet the Paris Accord, what can we learn from these sustainable champions?

This seminar will also discuss the evolution of the role of CSR to one on sustainable development and therefore a 'must have' rather than a 'nice to have' in modern business practice. Without an understanding and commitment to the triple bottom line of People, Planet and Profit, companies will not survive in the future.

Join Leeds University Business School at their From Words to Action: Rethinking Corporate Social Responsibility seminar to hear from key industry and academic experts and join discussions on a topic vital for business competitiveness, growth and international position.
