Life after Leeds : Stories from our alumni

We invite you to join a panel of Leeds alumni who will share their career insights and life after Leeds, with an opportunity for you to put your questions to the speakers.

The panel event will be followed by an informal networking evening, including a quiz.

Speaker panel:

Akinwale Abidukan
(MSc International Business, 2009)

Akinwale is an entrepreneur and currently the President / CEO of Bluemart Realty Group, a real estate investment & brokerage firm in Nigeria. During his time at Leeds, Akinwale was the President of Leeds University Nigeria Students Society.

Oyinloluwa Akeredolu  
(MA Advertising and Marketing, 2016)

Oyinloluwa is a Brand and Research Officer for Inspiration 92.3FM, a Nigerian radio station. She monitors the station progress, comparing previous statistics and competing stations, she also provides content for the brand's weekly newsletter and social media channels. 

Etta Akeem Olakunle
(MBA, 2012)

Akeem is currently a middle management internal control professional in Polaris Bank Limited (Formally Skye Bank Plc), one of the foremost banks in the Nigerian Financial Industry.  Prior to this time, his experience spans across Financial Control and Regulatory Compliance, Performance Management and Investor Relations. Akeem has 10 years banking experience. He is passionate about promoting financial inclusion helping the unbanked have access to finance.

Chibuzo Okereke 
(MSc Chemical Engineering, 2010)

After Leeds, Chibuzo worked as a Proposals Specialist at Invensys, and then as a Project Engineer for Schenider Electric Software. Chibuzo currently works as a Project Engineer in the Training and Simulation division of Aveva, coordinating the effective execution of Operator Training Simulator (OTS) projects and services in Nigeria and managing globally distributed teams to achieve this. "I am passionate about efficient and effective engineering business management and consistently improving organisational processes and operations to enable my clients get the best out of their investments."

Busayo Longe
(MSc (Eng), Engineering, Technology and Business Management 2015) 

Busayo is co-founder and team lead at Formplus (www.formpl.us), a web-based data collection software that helps organisations gather business data. Launched after winning the Google App Developer Challenge for Sub-Saharan Africa, Formplus has helped over 50,000 businesses in more than 80 countries improve their business processes. Busayo also won First Prize at the University of Leeds Business Plan Competition in 2017 for his approach to solving business data problems using Formplus. He is passionate about data and the role it’s playing in ensuring business longevity.

Emeritus Prof Olusoga A Sofola - BSc, MSc, MB.BS. (Lagos), PhD (Leeds), FPsn, FAS (Nigeria)
Prof Olusoga Adekunle Sofola attended the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos (CMUL) from 1966 to 1972 where he received a BSc Hons, MSc and MB.BS in 1972. He then capped it with a PhD in Physiology as a Commonwealth scholar at the University of Leeds in 1978.

His teaching career started in November 1973 as lecturer and was appointed Professor of Physiology in 1984. He became Emeritus Professor of Physiology at the University of Lagos in 2015. He was at some time Professor at United Arab Emirates University – 1990-91, Texas Southern University Centre for Cardiovascular Diseases, USA- 2001-2 and British Heart Foundation Fellow at the Institute of Cardiovascular Studies, University of Leeds, UK (1998 – 2000). He has taught physiology to various students including residents from 1973. In University administration, he was Dean School of Basic Medical Sciences, CMUL – 1986 to 90, Provost, CMUL – 1993 to 96, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & Research), University of Lagos – 2003 to 2007 and Acting Vice Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State – 2009 to 2010.

He has published over 115 articles in journals and over 60 published abstracts. He has presented papers at conferences in various countries such as UK, USA, France, Hungary, Netherlands, Egypt, Mauritius, Morocco, South Africa and Brazil. His major research area is on the mechanisms of salt-induced hypertension in experimental animals and man. His current focus is on some genetic forms of hypertension. He is member of several scientific associations including, American Physiological Society, Physiological Society of Great Britain as well as the Nigerian Physiological Society of which he is a Fellow.  He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science. He is current President of the African Association of Physiological Sciences and was recently elected into the Council of the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS).

He is involved in voluntary organizations such as Ajesola Solarin Majekodunmi Foundation (ASMAF) that gives scholarships to needy female undergraduates studying professional courses and his Alofos Science  Foundation that trains youths in science and technology (STEM), especially Robotics, including support in sciences for New Era Senior Girls School.
