Dr Marta Bell

Profile

Having previously held successful academic positions at Lancaster, Liverpool University and the Politecnico di Milano for over fifteen years, Marta Bell’s current research interests are within socially responsible practices along the supply chain, with a specific focus on emerging economies and global supply chain management, including internationalisation processes as well as offshoring or reshoring decision-making and resilient supply chains.

Industrial engagement and business partnerships are central to Marta’s research and teaching. She has worked collaboratively with blue chip companies and SMEs in both the UK and Italy, as well as emerging country businesses within the fashion industry globally. Marta has contributed towards research projects for the the British Academy and other EU funded projects.

The author of more than 50 publications, her journal articles have been published in high-ranking publications such as the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal and the International Journal of Production Economics.

Marta has supervised five successful PhD research projects from 2010 to 2020 at Lancaster and Liverpool Universities (all completed within four years) and currently has two active PhD supervisions at Leeds University. Over the past decade, Marta has taught Operations and Supply Chain Management modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Executive MBA courses. Previously a successful Director of the MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Lancaster University, where student numbers tripled under her tenureship, she is student-centred, and commited to improving teaching practice in the higher education sector via the use of digital learning opportunities.

Marta is particularly interested in supervising PhD students in the following areas: sustainable supply chain practices, circular economy supply chains (particularly within the fashion sector), social sustainability performance and reshoring development.
