Shahla Ghobadi appointed as Leeds University Business School Academic Lead in Inclusive Practice
The Management Division’s Shahla Ghobadi, Associate Professor in information systems and information management, has been appointed as the School Academic Lead in Inclusive Practice.
The role is part of a cross-faculty project: Inclusive learning and Teaching Development (ILTD). The ILTD, based in the Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence and headed up by Jenny Brady and Beth Johnson, established the Baseline Standards of Inclusive Learning and Teaching (2018).
The commencement of Shahla Ghobadi’s appointment coincides with National Inclusion Week 2019, a unique opportunity to reflect upon the purpose of the project: what has been achieved so far, and the plans for the next two years.
To Shahla, inclusive practice in education at university is key to ensuring that a diverse range of people of different abilities are able to access and use learning material, thrive in their course and reach their full potential. This means that learning, teaching and assessment practices should be designed and delivered in a way that considers the widest range of students as possible. Inclusive education involves adopting a particular mind-set to recognising barriers inherent to common practices in Higher Education, and the willingness to accept and welcome difference and diversity.
Shahla hopes that by continuing to adopt an inclusive culture in education, especially here in the Leeds University Business School, we are equipping the next generation of business leaders, managers, and CEOs with an inclusive mindset, and will feed into a more compassionate and accessible business world.
