Joe Clease

Joe completed a Masters degree in Economics at the University of Leeds in 2000. Since then he has worked as a policy analyst and at all levels of government (local, regional and national), encompassing local economic development, skills and social exclusion policy.

In 2009, Joe joined the Department for Work and Pensions as a Principal Economist, initially focusing on policy for disadvantaged areas. Joe moved into pensions policy in 2012 and led the production of the impact assessments for the new State Pension and increases to the State Pension age.

Joe advised government on a range of private pensions policy issues, having previously led the work to enable collective pensions in UK legislation. He is involved in a range of initiatives to try to enhance analytical skills among government analysts. In his current role as Head of Enterprise Analysis for the Business Department (BEIS), he is responsible for teams that conduct analysis of new emerging sectors, economic shocks and business finance.
