Professor Bin Xu

Profile

Bin Xu is a Professor of Finance (Chair in Sustainable Finance) and the Director of Research and Innovation in the Accounting and Finance Department at the University of Leeds. Prior to joining Leeds University Business School, he worked as a Lecturer in Finance at Queen’s University Belfast. He received his PhD in Finance from Loughborough University. He has been a visiting researcher at the Norwegian School of Economics and Warwick Business School, and has academic exchange experience at the University of British Columbia.

His primary research areas are corporate finance, sustainable finance, and corporate governance. He is particularly interested in how corporate decisions and outcomes can be shaped by various stakeholders and capital market participants (e.g., customers, employees, competitors, analysts, short sellers) and managerial incentives.

His research appears in the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative AnalysisJournal of Corporate Finance and Journal of Banking and Finance, and has been featured in Harvard Business Review and Columbia Law School’s Blog. He sits on the editorial board of Journal of Business Finance and Accounting (ABS 3) and is an Associate Editor of International Journal of Finance and Economics (ABS 3). 

He has the experience of teaching a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses (e.g., Corporate Finance, International Business Finance, Financial Reporting and Analysis, and Empirical Methods for Accounting and Finance Research). He was the Programme Director of MSc Financial Risk Management (2020-2024). He is the recipient of QUB Rising Star Teaching Award in 2017. He is an External Examiner for the finance and accounting MSc programmes at the University of Sheffield and the BSc Finance programme at Durham University.
