Why did you choose Leeds University Business School?

The Business School stood out to me as having a consistently high reputation amongst the league tables and rankings. It's also one of the few universities that are triple accredited which is important to me as an Accounting and Finance student.

What do you enjoy most about your studies?

I like the flexibility of being able to choose modules that allow me to play to my strengths but also learn something new that isn't necessarily to do with my particular degree by choosing optional and/or discovery modules.

I've also felt very supported by the University staff since arriving at Leeds which makes it easy for me to ask them questions whenever I am stuck or just curious about a particular topic!

How has your experience been with the facilities, the staff, your peers and the student union?

The facilities at the University offer something for everyone and that’s what I love about being a student here. The campus is huge but spread out which makes it feel nice and spacious without it being so big that you'll get lost all the time! The University has a selection of different libraries and study spaces to choose from meaning that there's a suitable space for everyone to do work in.

Leeds University Union offers a wide variety of different events, including the club night Fruity, plays, gigs, wellbeing activities and trips to different cities. Within the union itself, there's a variety of bars, cafes and places to eat which makes it a great place to go with friends.

If you completed a year in industry, how was your experience? Did you feel supported by the University in finding your placement?

I was able to secure a placement year at a one of the Big Four accountancy firms. I really enjoyed my placement year, it gave me an opportunity to improve both my technical and interpersonal skills which has made me feel prepared for a graduate position.

The University supported me throughout the process of getting the placement all the way through to completing it. Specifically, the Careers Centre helped me to prepare for interviews and assessments by providing mock interviews and giving useful feedback.

What do you think of Leeds and the surrounding region? Where is your favourite place to go in the area?

I love Leeds, it feels like a second home. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The city centre has everything (and every shop) that you could possibly want! There are so many restaurants, bars and nights out to choose from. My favourite activity to do in Leeds would have to be Junkyard Golf. However, it's also nice to go somewhere away from the city and Roundhay Park is great for that.

What are your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you will gain from your degree course will help you in your future career plans?

I would like to become a Chartered Accountant and my degree has definitely helped me in this process. I've secured a graduate job at one of the Big Four accountancy firms because of my placement year at the firm, which will give me the opportunity to study towards the ICAS Chartered Accountant qualification.

Not only this, but my degree allowed me to improve my communication and teamwork skills which are vital for my chosen career.

Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?

Definitely! The staff are so helpful and students are so nice, I've made friends for life. My degree so far has been interesting and varied. I feel like I’m genuinely cared about by the Business School.
