Alumna comes to the end of a successful 12 months as Birmingham Young Professional of the Year 2018

Congratulations to Leeds University Business School alumna Laura Thursfield, who this month comes to the end of a successful 12 months as Birmingham Young Professional of the Year 2018.

The prestigious award recognises and rewards talented individuals in Birmingham’s business community.

Reflecting on her year, Laura commented:

Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) has been a privilege and an absolute pleasure. However, the passion, power and drive that surrounds “being BYPY” is not just one individual. It’s professionals collaborating across sectors in the city, selflessly offering help and support to their fellow professionals, having the courage to challenge injustices and standing up for people whose voices are not being heard. To witness this first-hand has been an incredibly humbling experience, and one I will always cherish.

Laura is an independent financial adviser at Mazars LLP, having graduated with a BA in Management from Leeds University in 2013.

We are delighted that Laura is also a Leader in Residence for the management division at Leeds University Business School. Through this scheme, she comes back to campus to share her wealth of experience and tips for career success with our current undergraduate management and business analytics students, through group discussions and networking sessions.

Commenting on the scheme, Laura said: “Leaders in Residence is a fantastic scheme. It’s really important to create identifiable role models for undergraduates, helping to connect the textbooks and lecture theatres to real life working practices. My aim is always to encourage students to embrace their individuality and to show them you don’t have to be a just one type of person to succeed.”
