Professor Julia Bennell welcomes the Dutch Ambassador, Paul Huijts to the University of Leeds campus to mark the start of her new role. as Honorary Consul to the Netherlands.

Professor Julia Bennell, Executive Dean of Leeds University Business School, has been appointed as the new Honorary Consul to the Netherlands in the UK. The role, which represents the North East of England, is part of the Dutch diplomatic network. As one of 11 Honorary Consuls in the UK, Professor Bennell will promote Dutch-Anglo interests, support business and cultural activities, and assist Dutch citizens in the region. 

During the visit of Dutch Ambassador Paul Huijts to the University of Leeds, they discussed strengthening economic ties between the Netherlands and the North East of England, particularly in sectors like finance, healthcare, innovation, and the creative industries. The Ambassador also visited Nexus and attended a cultural exhibition by Dutch artist Boris Maas.

Professor Bennell expressed excitement about her new role, emphasizing the importance of fostering business and cultural collaboration between the Netherlands and the region. The appointment was celebrated with a reception attended by local officials from Leeds City Council.
