Jingyan Shu (MSc International Marketing Management 2006)

Jingyan Shu

Jenny (Jingyan) chose the Business School because of its high standards, experience teachers and the excellent facilities. Studying for her masters in International Marketing Management, she chose the course because of her interest in market research and particularly enjoyed the team work projects saying ‘completing the case study with my team members was very interesting.’

Originally from China, English wasn’t a big problem as she had already studied it for two months at Leeds University Language School. However she did find the Yorkshire accents difficult to get used to but says ‘the student union was very helpful, with many activities to take part in and also lots of information to help students, especially foreign students like us.’

The Business School had excellent facilities with a computer centre, lecture auditoriums and canteen all on-site. Jenny loved Leeds and had heard it was famous for shopping and the pubs and found that when she got to Leeds, it was a lively city and never felt lonely or bored.

Jenny made lots of friends whilst at Leeds from all over the world and found her course encouraged people to get to know one another. She still keeps in touch with them now and one of her most memorable moment was the ball held by the Business School at the end the second term, saying ‘we had wonderful night, that will forever stay in my memory.’

Jenny is currently working as Deputy Sales Manager for a Japanese Marine Paint Maker, Nippon Paint Marine Co,. She has found her course was helpful for her career in sales, as she had learnt how to segment the market and how to analyze the customers.

Jenny was able to attend her graduation day with her mother and extremely enjoyed the whole Leeds experience and would recommend the Business School to others who are interested in studying in UK.
