Why did you choose to study at Leeds University Business School?
I applied to five UK universities but I chose Leeds University as my first choice as I know that Leeds University Business School is considered as one of the finest business schools in the UK. I am sure that pursuing this course of studies at a university of international standing and reputation will provide me with the analytical, professional and communication skills required for a successful professional career. It would also provide me with knowledge and skills which can lead to exciting career opportunities as a qualified accountant. Moreover, except for the fact that Leeds University is one of the finest universities in the UK, Leeds is a very beautiful city, ideal for a perfect student life.
Tell us about your course – why did you choose it?
I was taking private classes in accounting for two years and this year I realised that this was what I wanted to study. Accounting is a huge world which with good decisions and critical thinking can lead to a better society.
What would you say to anyone considering applying for a scholarship?
It is a unique opportunity and a great honour to receive a scholarship from Leeds University Business School so there I had no hesitation in applying.
What sort of things did you include in your scholarship supporting statement?
I included my high school grades as the scholarship requirements were based on the academic achievements. I also included my interests and hobbies as well as reasons why I think I should receive the scholarship.
What are the best things about your studies here – what are you enjoying the most?
Leeds is a great place to study. I enjoy the course I am studying and the fact that I am independent. However the thing I enjoy the most is that I met new friends from all over the world. It is a great opportunity to get to know about other cultures and live in a multinational environment.
What are your career aspirations?
I am not quite sure what I am going to do when I get my bachelor's degree. Most probably I will continue this course of studies by doing an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification which can lead me to a successful professional career as a certified or chartered accountant. At the same time I could also work for an accounting office where I could get some experience for my future career.
There are many organisations that interest me which provide audit, tax, consulting, enterprise risk and financial advisory services like Deloitte, PwC or KPMG. Moreover, there are many non-profit organizations where I would also like to work, such as UNICEF or WWF, which help people with charity services and at the same time provide accounting and auditing services.
Have you been involved in any extra-curricular activities at Leeds such as clubs and societies or being a student ambassador?
Extra-curricular activities are of the same importance as the academic achievements. So I am an active member of FABSoc (Finance, Accounting, and Business Society) of Leeds University. I have also participated as a volunteer in many volunteering programmes which help vulnerable groups of people such as unemployed, blind people etc.
Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?
I would definitely recommend the Business School to other people who consider studying here! Leeds University Business School is one of the finest business schools in the UK and can offer a variety of opportunities to its students. It creates also a multinational environment, ideal for every student who wants to make the most of his studies.
