Why did you choose Leeds University Business School?
I wanted to study Accounting and Finance and Leeds is one of the biggest finance centers in the North of England. Also, Leeds University Business School has a highly ranked Accounting and Finance Master programme in the UK. I was also interested in further developing my research skills, and the University of Leeds has a strong research background which is recognised by both commercial and non-commercial organisations.
Tell us about your Accounting and Finance course...
The Accounting and Finance course is very well designed, and it was able to provide me with the knowledge for the areas I wish to build my career in. I chose a dissertation topic relating to my future professional development, which was very useful for ehancing my employability after graduation. I was very impressed wit the resources and support available from the Business School.
What were the highlights of your time studying at the Business School?
My biggest achievement was getting a distinction in my dissertation. As an overseas student with no previous experience in Accounting and Finance or writing, a full English dissertation was a big challenge for me. However, this turned out to be the best part of my studies at LUBS, as I developed the ability to work independently and I was able to share my experience of research with other Accounting and Finance students.
How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School?
I initially got an offer from Frost and Sullivan, a global management consultancy firm. During a six month internship, I completed a market research report on Chinese electric vehicles, which was a very interesting and rewarding experience.
What is your current job remit?
I am currently working in PwC assurance. My main job is working in a team to audit client's financial statements, carry out different testing methodologies and assess clients' business risks and internal control systems.
What advice do you have for students at Leeds University Business School?
I would suggest students focus on finding their career passions while studying at the Business School. Get the most out of your programme and try to link your studies and research to your future career prospects. Don't be afraid to ask for help, there are many sources of support which really made a difference in my studying. Last but not least, enjoy the diversity of cultures at the University of Leeds!
What are your ambitions for the future?
I would like to further enhance my accounting expertise while working for clients from different industries. The learning experience at Leeds University Business School has established my ability to learn new things throughout my career. I learned to always challenge myself and to grab opportunities to reach the next target in my long term career.
How was the transition to a foreign country? Was there any help available for any difficulties you may have encountered when settling in to life in the UK?
The first few months were tough due to the intense course, different language and a different studying system from home. But the International Office and Careers Centre, as well as other Leeds University Business School services, were all very supportive and knowledgeable. After the initial stage, the experience of studying and living abroad became a fantastic experience, maybe the best experience ever!
Would you recommend the Business School to others?
Yes! Definitely a great place to pursue your future career and academic success.
