Jane Parkin

Profile

MSc in Statistics, University of Sheffield. MA (Oxon), BA (Hons) in Mathematics, University of Oxford Fellow of the Operational Research Society, Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. Jane has extensive academic experience in teaching and curriculum development on various BSc, MSc and MBA courses in the UK, USA, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Hungary and the Middle East. She has carried out overseas lecture tours funded by the British Council, the European Union and the World Bank. She was Head of Department of Statistics and Operational Research (O.R.) at the University of Huddersfield, and external examiner for several academic institutions. She is a Fellow of the Operational Research Society (ORS) and the Royal Statistical Society (RSS); a recent Board member of the ORS and a current member of the Pro Bono OR committee which provides free analytical consultancy to third sector organisations.  She has worked as a UK Government Analyst using analytical methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Government policy and operations and now works as an independent analytical consultant undertaking projects for the public, private and third sectors. Her main interest is the application of O.R. and statistics to real-world problems and she is experienced in the design and analysis of surveys, modelling systems (including Monte Carlo simulation), analysis and modelling for business cases, and providing long term forecasts under a range of assumptions.

Research interests

Design of staff rosters considering staff well-being as well as efficiency and effectiveness.
