The Guardian discusses early years childcare research
Business School research on early years childcare was featured in an article published by The Guardian on 18 April.
The opinion piece titled ‘The government’s stance on childcare reveals its character – and it’s ugly as hell’ discusses the rising cost of childcare and poor wages in the sector.
The ESRC/UKRI-funded project ‘Childcare during Covid-19 in England and Wales’ looks at disruption to early years education and care as a result of the pandemic.
Dr Kate Hardy from the Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change (CERIC) leads the project and commented:
To think that the staff are being paid poverty wages while we pay more on childcare than our mortgage is really upsetting.
The evidence also suggests that children from low-income families are held back as a result of the soaring fees.
