ACE 2025 Online Seminar hits hot topic: AI in research

On 23 June, over 100 participants joined the ACE 2025 Online Seminar to hear renowned AI expert Professor Peter Trkman share his insights on the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence in Research.
Based in the Academic Unit for Business Informatics and Logistics, Professor Trkman works at the intersection of research, business, and education, focusing on digital transformation, generative AI, business model innovation, and supply chain management.
This year’s seminar drew an unprecedented global audience, with doctoral researchers and academics from across Europe and China. Attendees were treated to hands-on live demonstrations of both general and specialised GenAI tools, tailored for academic research and postgraduate theses.
A highlight of the event was the extended Q&A session, where Professor Trkman addressed key ethical concerns around AI use in academia—covering topics such as plagiarism, fake references, peer review integrity, native language checkers, and the importance of disclosing AI use. He also introduced the concept of co-intelligence, emphasizing the synergy between human researchers and AI systems.
Following the seminar, Professor Trkman remarked:
From my perspective, everything was great—indeed very relevant questions from the participants. Thank you for this opportunity. Of course, in an online setting with 100 participants, it is hard to say how they perceived the content, so their potential feedback is most welcome. Lots of success both at ACE and also other international research endeavours.
Audience feedback included enthusiastic responses from institutions such as the University of Antwerp, University of Ljubljana, and University of Huddersfield.
