Visit to ASDA’s Merchandising Centre of Excellence for International Business Students

On Wednesday 20th November, a group of International Business students got the opportunity to visit ASDA’s Merchandising Centre of Excellence (MCE).

The students gained insight into ASDA's strategy and learned about the data used for decision-making in the business. They also had the valuable experience of taking part in a networking activity where they were able to network with a variety of employees from ASDA to learn more about different functions of the business. The session finished with a tour of the MCE shop floor, where concepts are tested.

Sakshi Mishra (Business Analytics and Decision Sciences, 2023), a former alumnus of the Business School, who now works at ASDA and who put the event together said, “It was truly a pleasure hosting the Networking Event for Leeds University Business School students. The energy and enthusiasm they brought combined with the valuable insights shared by ASDA colleagues made for a vibrant and engaging event. It was great to see meaningful connections being formed and contribute to the students’ learning journey. It is important for ASDA to hold such events to make the students aware of the kind of opportunities we have in the different business functions.”

Andy Smith, Department Director of Student Education (International Business), commented, “This was an amazing opportunity for our International Business students to learn firsthand about careers in data analytics and to understand how Asda leverages data to optimise sales.”
