LUBS finalist in Study UK Alumni Awards, Egypt
Business School alumnus Mohamed Owais Shalaby has been recognised for his achievements since leaving Leeds, as he has been named as a finalist in the British Council Study UK alumni awards 2024.
Mohamed Owais Shalaby (MBA, 2017) has been selected as a finalist in the Business and Innovation award category, Egypt, and is looking forward to the awards ceremony event in Cairo on 1st February 2024.
Mohamed is a Senior Financial Advisor at Pathfinder, USAID with a career spanning 17 years, he is a highly experienced finance and investment management professional.
He began his career as an Account Manager with Sigma Capital Holding and quickly rose to become a Senior Fund Manager. He then worked as the Investment Manager at Odin Investments, where he played a key role in launching the first Real Estate Trust Fund (REIT) in Egypt. After his tenure at Odin Investments, Mohamed went on to hold several top-level positions in the finance industry, including Managing Director of Elite Financial Advisory, Group Investment Director for Andalusia Group for Medical Services, and Group Finance and Investment Director for Centro CDX Group. Mohamed is a lecturer of economics and finance at both public and private universities in Egypt. He has also served as a non-executive board member for several companies in the investment and financial services sector, including Centro Global Solutions, Elite Financial Consultancy, Coded Investment, Wedian securities brokerage, and B.E. Finance. Mohamed's solid business acumen and strong decision-making skills have positioned him as a knowledgeable and trustworthy expert in the finance and investment industry.
Currently, Mohamed works as a senior Financial Advisor for USAID projects focusing on economic empowerment and financial inclusion in Egypt. For example, the Women's Economic and Social Empowerment programme in Egypt is to empower 100,000 women through economic enrichment and financial inclusion, and Mohamed has designed a programme that addresses the barriers preventing these underserved women from accessing and participating in the conventional financial system. They now have a financial literary training programme which incorporates insights from behavioural finance sciences to educate beneficiaries about the role of emotions and biases in their financial decision-making. In addition, they tackle cultural barriers that hinder individuals from engaging with the conventional financial system.
The British Council Study UK alumni awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education.
