Dr Nicholas Jackson

Profile

Nick's interest in organizations and people management has developed over several years, having been involved in the family business, which he then went on to manage. Following this, Nick had a 10-year spell working for Aviva plc where he became a senior accountant. Part of his role involved managing the relationship between Life Finance and the investment fund managers in London, where he further developed his interests in human attitudes and behaviour at work.

Following Honours at Bachelors and Masters level, Nick achieved a PGCE in post-compulsory education and training, and completed a PhD at the University of Leeds in organizational behaviour. His PhD thesis focused on perceived fairness in the merger and acquisition process, its antecedents and outcomes. This being a relatively unexplored area of organizational psychology, the findings were of considerable interest.

Nick’s current research interests are in the field of pedagogical approaches to post-compulsory education. This includes contemporary course and programme design for more effective engagement and learning and understanding the challenges for marginalized student groups in higher education. His forthcoming book entitled: ‘Supporting Marginalized Students in Higher Education: From Transition to Progression’ is due to be published by Edward Elgar Publishing in 2026. He is also the author of other academic texts: Organizational Justice in Mergers and Acquisitions: Antecedents & Outcomes and The Architecture of Student-Oriented Course Design: Building a course for contemporary higher education students’
