Tell us about your degree - why did you choose it? What elements of the degree inspired you to study it?
I selected the MA Human Resource Management at Leeds University Business School because it was a comprehensive and internationally focused programme. I felt confident it would build on my practical knowledge of the field and help me to further develop the skills needed for growth and to excel in my career.
What was the best part of your studies here? What did you enjoy the most about your course?
I thoroughly enjoyed the course content because it was a healthy blend of theory and HR Management in practice. Additionally, the ability to learn not only from distinguished academics but also lecturers who were industry-experienced and other guest HR practitioners was invaluable.
What was your impression/experience of the student union, the city of Leeds and Yorkshire? Did you do any extracurricular activities during your studies? How did you enhance your personal development? What would you recommend to future students?
One of the key factors in choosing the University of Leeds for my postgraduate studies was the location of the University. Leeds is an incredible city to live and study in, and is well structured to accommodate students from all walks of life.
While I was a Postgraduate Course Representative, I made great connections with my course mates. I also had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and regularly connected with other postgraduate taught and research students at the Student Union. This was a particularly enriching experience and helped me to build my network.
How did your experiences at Leeds University Business School help you to advance your career?
In addition to receiving a Distinction in my course and assuming a leadership role as Course Representative, I was also able to participate in an International Business Study Tour to Zurich, Switzerland and a Women in Leadership Mentorship Program at PwC. Overall, these collective experiences helped to prepare me for further advancement in my career and to build the practical and networking skills, discipline and confidence I needed to obtain a senior leadership role.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I aspire to continue building my career and obtain a more senior role and ultimately, transition into HRM research.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to work in a similar role or industry to you?
My advice is to find the right balance between ambition, discipline, networking and personal wellbeing. Most importantly, have fun at work.
What is your defining memory of studying here? Would you recommend the Business School to others?
My defining memory of studying at the Business School is the friendships made and the confidence in my abilities (mine and my lecturers) built. I genuinely loved my time at Leeds University Business School and would recommend to others without hesitation.
What advice would you give to students to help them get the most out of their time in Leeds?
Get out and get involved! There are so many activities and things to do at the University and in the city. Get the full experience and enjoy your time being a student.
