Business School Welcomes First-Ever Immersion International Learning Experience Group

For the first time, Leeds University Business School welcomed 15 postgraduate Business Management students from the University of Pretoria for a week-long immersion international learning experience.

This new initiative highlights a growing partnership between the two institutions, building on a strategic alliance with Pretoria’s Faculty of Business and Management Sciences. Alongside the student delegation, five leading academics from Pretoria joined the program, eager to connect with faculty members in Leeds and explore areas for future collaboration.

Prof Alex Antonites. Head of Department of Business management said,

“The purpose of these international academic tours is to gain exposure to new ideas, engage meaningfully, and foster learning. Leeds University elevated this experience by immersing us in a multi-dimensional ecosystem of excellence. We return with insights into an innovative, human-centric approach to cultivating long-term collaboration between both entities, with a return on investment that is truly exponential.”

The program featured an intensive schedule of lectures, industry visits, and cultural experiences designed to immerse the students in UK business practices and British culture. Highlights included a hands-on data analytics workshop and an engaging discussion with James Mason, CEO of the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, where students gained insights into the region’s economic landscape and business ecosystem.

Prof Wesley Rosslyn-Smith, Department of Business Management, University of Pretoria said,

“Through our enriching study tour at Leeds University, our postgraduate students have gained invaluable insights, bridging academic theory with real-world applications. This experience has not only broadened their global business perspectives but also strengthened the foundation for future collaboration between our institutions. We are deeply grateful to Leeds for this opportunity to inspire and prepare the leaders of tomorrow.”

For many of the students, the trip marked their first experience in the United Kingdom, with cultural excursions in Leeds and a day trip to historic York providing unique opportunities to connect with the local culture.
