Research interests

Joana is interested in understanding why some blockchain-based organizations (e.g. cryptocurrencies) are more successful than others.  Her research sits at the intersection of strategy and blockchain-based organizations, studying Web3 strategy and the factors that impact cryptocurrencies’ performance. Much of her current research focuses on the limitations and boundary conditions of blockchain technology (e.g. when and under which conditions blockchain technology shall be adopted) and on the different dimensions that affect cryptocurrencies’ market performance, such as community effects, market cycles, interoperability, tokenomics, governance, among others.
