Leeds University Business School hosts Diwali Celebration

LUBS recently held its first-ever Diwali celebration, a joyous event that gathered over 250 students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds to mark the traditional Festival of Lights.

The event, co-hosted by The James E Lynch India and South Asia Business Centre (JEL ISABC) and The People, Work and Employment (PWE) Department, brought the spirit of Diwali to life on campus. Attendees were treated to captivating dance performances, a catwalk showcasing beautiful Indian designs, a Kahoot quiz, vibrant rangoli designs, and delicious festive treats. It was wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate this festival, fostering a sense of unity and cultural appreciation.

“It was truly heartwarming to see our university community come together to celebrate this beautiful festival,” said Professor Mohammad Faisal Ahammad, interim Head of the International Business Department. He continued:

The warmth and enthusiasm of everyone present reflected the spirit of Diwali – unity, joy, and the celebration of light.

Amrita Manohar, Deputy Director of JEL India and South Asia Business Centre, said: “A huge thank you to Dr Meenakshi Sarkar, who played a major role in planning and organising the event, all the student volunteers who worked behind the scenes, and all our performers on the day. Your presence and enthusiasm are what made it such a success! On behalf of JEL-ISABC, it was a joy to support the event. Here's to many more celebrations that bring us together as a community.”
