Dr. Jimena Castillo

Profile

I am a Research Fellow in the Economics Department at Leeds University Business School (LUBS), where I completed my PhD in Economics in 2024. My previous experience includes working as a consultant at Comuna, a cooperative that advises trade unions and social organizations, where I conducted research, economic analysis, and training. Additionally, I worked for several years at the Universidad de la República as a research and teaching assistant.

Research interests

My current research agenda focuses on the relationship between financialisation and structural change, with a particular focus on how financialisation impacts the capacity of developing countries to transition to higher value-added activities. That includes exploring the intersections between production, Global Value Chains, finance, and industrialisation strategies.
