Dr Yujia Chen is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Analytics and AI for Business at Leeds University Business School. Her research sits at the intersection of machine learning, explainable AI, and financial risk analytics, with a particular focus on transparent, fair, and sustainable decision systems in banking and organisational contexts.
She joined Leeds from the University of Edinburgh Business School, where she completed her PhD and subsequently held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. Her work advanced interpretable machine learning techniques for credit scoring and survival analysis. Her research has been published in leading academic journals such as the European Journal of Operational Research and Risk Analysis.
She also collaborates with experts and research specialists from policymaking and regulatory organisations, including the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, the Bank of England, and the Bank for International Settlements. Her recent projects focus on emerging challenges in credit risk, financial stability, and climate- and nature-related financial risks.
