Rethinking Digitalisation in the Public Sector

Professor Efpraxia Zamani joined our latest SPATO Seminar Series to explore digital transformation in the public sector through the lens of inequality, care and responsibility.

We were thrilled this week to host Professor Efpraxia Zamani for our latest Strategic Perspectives in Analytics, Technology and Operations (SPATO) Seminar Series event, where she delivered a powerful talk on digital transformation and inequality in the public sector.

Professor Efpraxia challenged the dominant narrative of digitalisation as purely innovative and efficient, highlighting how current strategies often overlook structural inequalities and place disproportionate burdens on vulnerable communities. She introduced a compelling care ethics lens, emphasising relationality, context, vulnerability, and responsiveness, to rethink what it means to be responsibly digital.

Her message was clear and timely: digital transformation is not just technical change; it is a redistribution of power, responsibility, and care. And the key question becomes: digital for whom, and at whose cost?
