CDR hybrid workshop on developing severe weather messaging for disaster risk reduction
On Monday 25th November members of the Centre for Decision Research held a hybrid workshop on developing severe weather messaging for disaster risk reduction. The event was attended by over 30 representatives from meteorological services, policy, NGOs, academia and consultancy. They presented findings from the first year of a three year project funded by the Lloyds Register Foundation (details here) to better understand the predictors of disaster risk perception and preparedness around the world to help develop more effective weather warning communications. The team highlighted factors found to be universal predictors of risk perception and preparedness and those that were specific to different countries, and gathered feedback on the next steps of the project in which they will test weather warning communications in focal countries
