Description
This project will investigate how continuous, contactless monitoring of broilers can improve productivity, welfare and sustainability across the UK poultry sector.
Today, farmers and processors rely on manual sampling of only a small proportion of birds, which results in unreliable and inaccurate average live weight estimates. As a result, proper planning of feed, identifying welfare issues early, or predicting when flocks will reach target weight is extremely challenging. This contributes to avoidable feed waste, compromised bird wellbeing, variations in processor batch weights and resulting inefficiencies.
The project is funded by InnovateUK: Farming Innovation Programme.
