JP Morgan Executive Director delivers guest lecture to students
Jason Dove, Executive Director at JP Morgan, delivered a guest lecture to Banking and Finance students in the Esther Simpson Building on 20 March.
The event was hosted by the Accounting and Finance Department and organised by Dr Joshua Cave, BSc Banking and Finance Programme Director, who commented:
The lecture really highlighted the dynamic and evolving nature of the banking industry and emphasised the importance of adaptability when working in the industry. It’s precisely these types of enriching insights from industry experts that give our students the academic and professional advantage in an increasingly competitive industry.
Jason presented an overview of the global payments industry and how banks’ pay-in and pay-out solutions have evolved over the course of his career:
The pace of change in our industry has never been this fast and will never be this slow again, but having met the exceptional students at Leeds University I have great confidence the challenges the future will bring, will be met with creativity, enthusiasm and courage.
The talk also touched upon the evolving landscape of payment systems, highlighting the latest trends and innovations driving the industry forward, and the revolution of AI.
Following his speech, the Accounting and Finance department welcomed back recent BSc Banking and Finance graduate, and current corporate analyst at JP Morgan, Luke Seward. Luke hosted Jason in a fireside chat where the pair explored the pivotal moments in Jason's career, shedding light on the essential characteristics required to succeed in the banking industry. The event finished with a Q&A and network session, where students had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with Jason and Luke, drawing on Jasons 35+ years’ worth of industry experience and Luke’s recent transition from banking graduate to banking professional.
