Industry Insight Visit to Asda Head Office Inspires Masters Students

Students from Leeds University Business School recently gained valuable real-world experience during an industry insight visit to Asda Head Office on Monday 16 March.

A group of 40 students from the MSc Business Analytics and Decision Science programme took part in the visit, where they were invited to engage in a live business challenge set by Asda’s Insight and Analytics team. The session provided a unique opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge to practical scenarios, while also learning how data and analytics drive decision-making within a major UK retailer.

The visit was organised and led by alumna, Sakshi Mishra, now an Insight and Analytics Manager at Asda. Having previously studied MSc Business Analytics and Decision Science at the Business School, Sakshi offered students valuable insights into career pathways within the analytics field, as well as an inspiring example of graduate success.

Aritad Choicharoon, Senior Lecturer in Business Analytics, highlighted the importance of such experiences: “Students from MSc Business Analytics and Decision Science have had the opportunity to visit one of the UK’s leading retailers and gain insight into how analytics is used to generate business value. Experiences like this demonstrate how our collaboration with industry enables students to see how the skills and theories they study are applied to real business challenges.”

This marks the third consecutive year that Leeds University Business School has partnered with Asda to deliver an industry insight visit. Each year, colleagues from the Insight and Analytics team have generously designed and delivered a tailored business challenge, alongside sharing expertise on careers in data and analytics.
Anna France, Senior Partnerships Manager, commented:

Industry partnerships like this play a vital role in our commitment to enhancing student employability. They ensure our graduates leave with the insight, confidence, and practical understanding needed to thrive in their future careers.

The continued partnership with Asda reflects the Business School’s dedication to providing students with meaningful industry engagement and preparing them for success in a data-driven business environment.
