This Masters degree provides you with the skills and knowledge to successfully manage innovation within the global economy. It will help you appreciate the dynamics and complexity of innovation, understand how to explore and identify opportunities, and give you the skills to be able to respond.
Through a combination of theoretical and practical teaching, you will be equipped to design, lead and implement all types of innovation within an organisation. You’ll learn a range of management strategies and practices, which will help you to identify opportunities and coordinate knowledge.The programme is ideal if you wish to gain expertise in leading strategic innovation initiatives, developing new ventures, products and services.

The Centre for Technology, Innovation and Engagement (C-TIE) is based at the Business School, and brings together researchers and practitioners interested in addressing a broad range of innovation and entrepreneurship topics.Some of our leading academics are key players in the research network ManETEI (Management of Emerging Technology for Economic Impact), which brings together leading European Business Schools, research institutes and partners from different sectors, technologies and countries. The network focuses on managing emergent technologies for maximum economic and social impact.
- Course content
The programme introduces you to the fundamental concepts and techniques of innovation management. Core modules will explore the importance of different types of innovation and how they interact with each other, as well as the challenges of commercialising ideas and practical aspects of leading innovation teams. A grounding in international business theory and the globalisation of innovation will put this into context, and you’ll develop your knowledge of research design in the subject.
You’ll expand your knowledge during modules that focus on managing and using intellectual capital and strategic management techniques. An additional module will cultivate your professional skills, allowing you to undertake fieldwork and develop research of your own.
There are opportunities to gain specialist knowledge in areas that suit your own interests – you’ll choose from a range of optional modules in management and business topics such as enterprise creation, decision making and supply chain management.
You’ll also focus on a specific topic of your choice during your dissertation project in the third semester. This is an opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge you’ve acquired and can be either a research dissertation or a practical consultancy project.

Learning and teaching
We use a variety of different teaching methods such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, practicals and fieldwork. Optional modules may use an even wider range including workshops, group learning or computer classes. Independent study is also vital to this programme, allowing you to develop your skills and prepare for taught sessions and assessments.
You’ll also be assessed using a range of techniques including exams, group projects, written assignments and essays, group and individual presentations and reports.
