Industrial relations, most aspects, but especially industrial relations and economic performance. Also work and employment restructuring, internal labour markets and the British Coal Industry.

Professor Nolan is currently on secondment as Director of the ESRC Future of Work Programme. The Programme, which has a budget of £4 million, is supporting the work of 27 project teams and more than 100 researchers at 22 UK universities.
