Experience

Paul is currently Professor of Finance and Head of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Finance (CASIF). Prior to joining The University of Leeds he was Head of the Business School at Exeter University, where he remains an Emeritus Professor. He has held chairs at Edinburgh University and Strathclyde University and has taught extensively both in the UK and overseas. He is also currently an Honorary Professor at Heriot Watt University.

Paul served on the Accounting and Finance panel of the 2001 and 2008 Research Assessment Exercises. He has been extensively involved in teaching quality assurance acting as an assessor at different times for the English, Welsh and Scottish funding agencies. He continues to chair degree Accreditation committees for the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation. He has also acted as Secretary and Chairman of the Conference of Professors of Accounting and Finance.

Paul has published in a range of journals including the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Financial Analysts Journal, European Financial Management, Journal of Financial Research and the Journal of Futures Markets. He has served on the Publications Committee of the Financial Management Association and various editorial boards. His current research focus is on takeovers, pensions and alternative investment markets.

After an extended career in universities Paul has supervised a considerable number of doctoral students and acted as external examiner for many more in more than 17 universities. His students are currently employed in a range of occupations including Dean of a Business School, Finance Professors and in the finance markets including hedge fund managers.
