Biography
Matthew graduated from the University of Sheffield with a first class honours degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience and later with a distinction from the Occupational Psychology MSc course. Matthew gained his PhD from the University of Leeds. His thesis concerned psychological and organizational issues in the design of workplaces. Matthew was awarded Chartered Psychologist status by the British Psychological Society in 2012.

Matthew’s expertise lies in the area of organizational and environmental psychology, particularly the promotion of environmentally sustainable work behaviour and the design of the physical work environment.

Mathew is a Research Fellow in Leeds University Business School’s Socio-Technical Centre (STC). Matthew manages the Greening Organizations and Work (GROW) World Universities Network. Matthew is also a founding member of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Occupational Psychology (DOP) Going Green working group, raising awareness and spreading good practice within the profession. Matthew leads the Research Methods and Analysis module for the STC’s MSc Organizational Psychology Course. He lectures on the research process, methodology and statistical analysis – in addition to workspace and workplace environmental sustainability.

Matthew has won international, national and university awards for his work. Most recently being awarded the US Academy of Management “Making Connections” award recognising contributions that cross disciplinary, international and practitioner/academic divides.

Matthew has presented at various international conferences; guest lectured at other universities; provided advice to leading organizations; presented at professional forums; and published practitioner advice.

Research Interests
My main interests are in the following areas:
•    Understanding drivers and barriers to environmentally sustainable work behaviour
•    Psychological techniques to support environmentally sustainable work behaviour
•    Evaluating employee interaction with, and perceptions of, their workspace
•    Understanding the benefits of differing space configurations
•    Applying socio-technical principles and end user involvement
•    Applied methods and tools   

Research funding
2012 - Greening Workplaces.  Proposal submitted to the EU FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Networks scheme (FP7-PEOPLE-2011-ITN).  Total amount applied for in excess of €3 million.  Result due mid 2012.
2012 - Green Mobile Application – University of Leeds’ Research Centre Funding – £9,750.
