Experience
Prior to joining the University of Leeds, Mario acquired experience in academia as well as in industry. He possesses international experience: he did his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in France, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom through funding from governmental and educational institutions in these countries.
He was a visiting researcher in a prestigious French research institution based in Paris where he wrote his Master’s dissertation under the supervision of the Director of Economics and Globalisation Department. His MSc studies in Economics (2-year programme) were funded by a highly competitive scholarship from the French government.
He worked for one global airline alliance as a specialist in quantitative and statistical analysis (financial and accounting statements) and as a leader of calculation and negotiations of inter-airline special prorate agreements. As such, he received quantitative and qualitative corporate training in the headquarters of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Mario can speak English, French and Spanish fluently.
Research
Mario's PhD studies focus on the development of new default prediction models including qualitative and quantitative (market and accounting) variables.
His research interests span a range of topics in accounting and finance, with a focus on Risk Management, Financial Forecasting, Corporate Governance, Option-Pricing Theory and Informational Content of Accounting, Financial and Governance Variables in Default Prediction Models. The Mexican government currently funds his PhD, which combines a number of these areas. He is a member of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Finance (CASIF).
Teaching
Mario's teaching experience at Leeds University Business School includes Postgraduate courses ‘Consumer and Corporate Credit’ and ‘International Banking and Finance’ for Postgraduate and Undergraduate students.
