Research

John Hillard's research has focused on two main areas - the economic performance of the UK and the economics of J. M. Keynes. Since 1992 he has been director of the Economics, Knowledge and Uncertainty Project, which is exploring the practical applications of Post Keynesian economics. from this project include The Philosophy and Economics of J. M. Keynes (Edward Elgar, 1992), Keynes, Knowledge and Uncertainty (Edward Elgar, 1995) and Beyond Keynes (Edward Elgar, forthcoming). His other research interest is concerned with identifying the factors affecting UK economic performance, and in this area include The Economic Decline of Modern Britain (Harvester, 1986) and UK Decline: the Key Texts (Harvester, 1995).

Teaching

As a member of the Industrial and Labour Studies division he has taught in the areas of labour economics, industrial relations and comparative economic performance. He acted as Departmental Enterprise Coordinator in the Business School as part of the University's involvement in the Enterprise in Higher Education Project. The main focus of this task was to help in the preparation a teaching and learning strategy for the School. He was also involved in the University of Leeds' Work-based Learning Project as a member of the steering committee and as a facilitator in Elida Fabergé and the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
