Research
My current research concerns management practices and productivity in the retail sector, working with Professor Chris Clegg. At this stage in the project I am focusing on working closely with our case study organisation, a nationwide department store chain, to derive insights from interviews, observations, and company performance data.
This project is a collaboration between four Universities: Leeds, Nottingham, Oxford, and Aston; and is jointly funded by the EPSRC and the ERSC. This project has four main objectives, to:
assess the role of management practices in the productivity gap in the UK retail sector;
identify key aspects of management activity for productivity;
develop multi-level models of relevant variables, and use them to understand and predict practice;
generate ideas on good practice for productivity improvements.
