In addition to the assessed modules and research dissertation on our MSc programmes in Finance, students also benefit from a range of professional training activities and employability workshops.
Recent activities have included field trips to various corporate headquarters, CV building and interview sessions, professional risk management workshops and commercial awareness networking events.
Case study: trading simulation
In recent years, students have gained a practical understanding of financial markets whilst developing important professional skills, as part of a one-week trading simulation delivered in partnership with Amplify Trading.
Using the same market simulations as companies such as HSBC, JPMorgan and Bank of America, students had the opportunity to find out what it’s like to be a City trader operating a state-of-the-art trading desk, and to apply key financial theories to live market prices.
Will de Lucy is Managing Director at Amplify Trading, one of the City’s most prominent trading companies, and has worked closely with our students throughout the exercise:
"The simulation helps students to bridge the gap between a theoretical understanding of financial markets and practical implementation within them. It is crucial to be able to understand how what you learn in finance and economics is applied in practice by leading firms in the industry."
Thanks to our established relationship with Amplify Trading, students have access to the latest professional expertise direct from the City. We plan to continue to develop such activity, providing our students with enhanced relevant professional opportunities as part of our Finance Masters programmes.
