Final Year Banking and Finance Students Inspire Peers

On 25 April, four final-year Banking and Finance students spoke to first and second-year Accounting and Finance and Banking and Finance students.

Florence Tandy, Joel Beeby, Leon Smith, and Olivia Highton delivered an inspiring careers talk to first-year and second-year students.

After successfully securing and completing internships at esteemed financial institutions, including Citi, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, and the Royal Bank of Canada, the speakers shared their internship experiences with their aspiring peers, providing insights into the roles of private banking, equity research, investment banking, and market trading.

The talk also offered firsthand insights to aspiring first-year and second-year students on how best to apply for internships, how to succeed in the interview process, and how to make the most out of the internship experience.

Dr Joshua Cave, Director of the BSc Banking and Finance programme, commented:

Our students’ desire and eagerness to share their invaluable experiences with their peers not only speaks volumes of their character but also highlights the supportive and enriching student environment offered by the Accounting and Finance Department at the University of Leeds.

The event finished with a Q&A and network session, where students had the opportunity to ask the soon-to-be graduates about their internship experiences and learn how best to stand out from the crowd in an ever-competitive graduate market.
