A vibrant city
A thriving cultural hub, café-bars, galleries, theatres, shops and more; students love Leeds. It’s not hard to see why. Ranked 2nd for City Life in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017, Leeds has also been named as one of the most affordable student destinations in the UK by HSBC. Student-focused and friendly, Leeds has a thriving cultural scene with theatres and museums, the First Direct Arena and the annual Leeds Festival – one of the largest live music events in the UK.
A single campus university
The University is located on a lively 98 acre campus, just ten minutes’ walk from the centre of Leeds. Enjoying one of the largest university campuses in the UK whilst being so close to a major city centre makes Leeds a truly unique student experience.
All of our 30,000 students are based on campus where shops, bars and sports facilities make you feel at home. We have one of the best academic libraries in the UK with over 2.8 million items and a new £9m undergraduate library opened in spring 2015. Free Wi-Fi is available across campus.
An award-winning students' union
At the centre of the campus lies our famous Students’ Union building which is the hub of student life in Leeds. Leeds University Union is the only union to ever win the Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative (SUEI) gold award twice and offers a huge range of support. With over 300 clubs and societies it also provides plenty of opportunities to make new friends and embrace university life.
The Union recently underwent a £20m upgrade to provide even more space for our students to make the most of their time here.
Get involved in sports
We cater for all levels of sporting participation and achievement. Olympic Champion triathlete Alistair Brownlee graduated from Leeds, whilst Leeds University Union provide plenty of opportunities to get involved, whatever your level.
For spectating, local sports teams include the three-time world Rugby League champions Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United Football Club, whilst Headingley Cricket Ground regularly hosts international matches just two kilometers from campus.
