Dr. Virpi Outila


I am a lecturer in international business. I received my PhD from Aalto University School of Business, Helsinki, Finland. I am interested in studying people management in multicultural contexts using qualitative research methods. Prior to joining Leeds, I worked asa  postdoctoral researcher at Aalto University School of Business.

I have worked for several years as a business executive in human resourse management in various Finnish multinational enterprises.

Research interests

My research intrests centre around people management in multicultural contexts, headquarter-subsidiary relations, practice/knowledge transfer in multinational enterprises, and emerging economies, particularly Russia. In my research, I use qualitative research methods with a special focus on language sensitive research methods. I am particularly interigued by using linguistic resources, such as proverbs, to uncover deeper meanings of various phenomena. My research has been publisehd in leading journals of management and international business, such as Journal of World Business and Management and Organization Review.
