The Economics Division represents policy-relevant, realistic and pluralistic research. We address real-world challenges through our research and promote a wide range of perspectives.
The Division's research centre, the Applied Institute for Research in Economics (AIRE) supports and disseminates research in economics and political economy at the University of Leeds. We take an interdisciplinary approach, with strong local, national and international partnerships. We work with other disciplines – business, social sciences, and STEM – to solve complex, practical problems and lead several interdisciplinary research projects.
We are a vibrant department with a tradition for teaching economics that is current, innovative, realistic, policy relevant and pluralistic. Our programmes combine a core of technical skills with a range of research-informed specialisms. We support students to become independent, critical thinkers prepared for employment and further study.
