Leeds University Business School recognised for developing global citizens

Leeds University Business School has been featured in a new report looking at how universities can give their students a truly international experience.

On 16 June 2021, Universities UK published a report looking at different activities being carried out by universities that help develop global citizens and how ‘internationalisation at home’ activities can help provide students with a truly international experience with the view to enhance inclusivity and sustainability.

The report highlights that ‘the uptake of outward mobility is still very limited with “only 7.8 per cent of UK undergraduate students…choosing to study abroad”; therefore, international opportunities held on campus or virtually becoming crucial to students gaining international competences and become globally agile graduates.

Leeds University Business School and the University of Leeds are both acknowledged in the report for their contribution and key initiatives, including the Business Schools’ Virtual International Programme 2020. The programme was created in response to the restrictions imposed on travel by Covid-19, and offered Masters students an opportunity to take part in a week-long virtual study tour, including lectures, workshops, company visits and networking events.

The programme first ran in 2020 and included speakers representing 20 different countries and 743 students participated.

Ellen Wang, Faculty International Manager at Leeds University Business School is quoted in the report: ‘By utilising technology and international partnerships, we were able to bring the world to our students through a rich and engaging online programme of lectures, talks, and activities.’
