Mark Shorrock is a pioneering entrepreneur in renewable energy. In his lecture, he will be discussing the challenges of being a leader and manager of growing companies in turbulent times, illustrated by stories from the renewable energy sector. He will talk about key obstacles and how to overcome them, describe his leadership philosophy and share the secrets of his success growing the companies he founded.
To date Mark has founded 4 companies, including Wind Energy, a Scottish based developer of wind farms. He grew Wind Energy Ltd into the largest independent developer of wind farms in the UK with over 650MW of wind farms moving through the planning process. In 2010 he merged his low carbon interests into Low Carbon Group, with the intention of offering individuals the ability to invest into renewable energy projects. Low Carbon Group originates renewable energy projects through its developer businesses and places them within its own long-term hold funds. Thus far, Low Carbon has built 28MW of solar farms in South West England. The company is seeking planning permission on a series of wind farms and also planning permission for three tidal lagoons using low head hydro turbines in impoundments in the Bristol Channel and North Wales.
